Our little boy is two! Wow!
What a wonderful two years it has been. It’s hard to believe he used to be such a tiny scrap (you can read about that on the blog I kept while he was in NICU). He’s now a joyful, bustling, car-loving, food-loving, hug-loving bouncy boy whom we all adore. He brings so much fun and affection to our family. We are so thankful for him.
For his birthday we had a low-key family barbecue and I made a Totoro cake. If you haven’t heard of Totoro, it’s an adorable Japanese cartoon film made by Studio Ghibli, the same studio that made Spirited Away. It’s become a firm family favourite of ours. It was actually Sophie’s idea to make a Totoro cake for Matthew, and I was pretty pleased because I had images of fondant trains circling a blue and green covered monstrosity of a cake going on in my head… This was much easier to achieve with just two chocolate Victoria sandwiches, vanilla buttercream, and chocolate buttercream.
Matthew’s party was a lovely family occasion which we will treasure. Not wanting to leave him without cake on his actual birthday, we also had a mini celebration on 16th August, for which I emphatically did not make the cakes (I bought them at Waitrose).
Here are a few photos of our lovely boy and his lovely family at his party.
Happy birthday little boy. Matthew, we love you and are so proud of you.
And just in case you were wondering, the struggle to get a decent family photo is very much real in our house:
